Growing up, there was always time to kill during Winter Break. The cold air encouraged us to stay in, huddled in front of the TV and eating every ounce of junk food in the house. I loved wasting time back then, and I can safely say that now, as an adult, that love has not diminished. I’ll do anything to kill an hour, especially on the company dime, and that’s a philosophy The Daily Egg takes very seriously.
That spirit applies to all our publications, but there was only one zine that merged everything we love making into one convenient package. In Belita: Dream State, we packed a short story, a paper game, AND a hidden short film all in one itty-bitty zine. It’s scary, it’s lore-heavy, and just a little bit mystical.
Every year, a beachside community is taken hostage by a surreal nightmare season that affects everyone in the Belita city limits. With the city locked down, you’re forced to fill out a psychological exam before entering the city. If you met us at one of the year’s many zine festivals, then you might have seen the in-story travel badges hanging from our necks (as shown above).
The game is part-word search and part-Rorschach test, with dozens of possible solutions. Play it by yourself, play it with a friend, play it with your super religious grandma who will scold you afterward, readers of this newsletter can download a FREE COPY of the digital zine by using the coupon code HOLIDAY23 at checkout. This coupon will only last until the end of the year, so ya better get crackin.
Happy Holidays!
